Selection and maintenance knowledge of hydraulic cylinders

Apr 29,2021

When selecting hydraulic cylinders, we usually consider the inner diameter, stroke, operating pressure, and mounting style. However, there are other points worth noting. First, when the hydraulic cylinder reaches a certain speed under load, it is essential to choose a cylinder with a cushioning device. Or, at higher speeds, a deceleration valve must be installed outside the hydraulic cylinder.

It is also important to choose the right hydraulic oil and seals. Different hydraulic oils require seals of different materials to ensure the life of the hydraulic cylinder. Of course, proper maintenance is also necessary during use. Considering that the cylinder needs to withstand high pressure, and the heavier the load, the greater the pressure. Therefore, maintaining the cylinder is a crucial part of maintaining the entire hydraulic system.

In fact, for a hydraulic system, the hydraulic cylinder is like the heart. If the heart has problems, it is difficult to repair, so maintenance must be cautious and meticulous. First, during maintenance, pay attention to rust prevention. This is because the piston extends from the cylinder during operation and is naturally subject to corrosion from oxides and acidic gases. Therefore, it is necessary to apply an appropriate amount of grease for protection to prevent the piston, as a load-bearing component, from being corroded and potentially breaking during operation.

Second, as the usage time increases, foreign objects may sometimes enter the hydraulic cylinder, increasing friction during operation. Also, the hydraulic oil itself has a certain service life, so regular oil changes are necessary to avoid negative effects on the device.

In general, preventive measures must be taken in advance during use. The operating speed of the hydraulic cylinder should also be appropriately controlled to extend its service life. In addition, for the protection of the mechanism and safety, installing an internal cushioning device is very effective in protecting the cylinder.
